This is on my profile I believe: I had a trip to the south of Spain via plane, bus and so on, to go to a music festival on a beach! The whole experience was fun as hell, and the festival was excellent! THEN we travelled up to Valencia and spent several days just hanging out there – great beaches, great food and drink and just soooo much fun. More of that, please!

In work? My favourite experience was getting a paper published. Outside of work I really enjoyed going to the top of the empire state building and looking at New York.

Probably going wildlife watching with my boyfriend on a trip to South Africa. I had been asked to give a talk at Cape Town and he collaborates with some people there so we got the air fares for free (yay science!) and we took a holiday at the same time. We saw baboons, ostriches, African penguins – which I didn’t even know EXISTED – and lots of other cool animals. Not to mention the vineyards!

Science – having one of my ideas become accepted and in textbooks. Looking at my lab and knowing I did it all myself, including getting the money. Out of science – having my daughter

In a general sense everytime I get a new result! Also I’ve found it very satisfying pulling together all my results on a topic I’ve worked on and interpret and publish my results.

I think one of my favourite experiences is trapping bats one evening near a lake in Zimbabwe and realising that a herd of elephants had come down to drink. On the same expedition we were also trying to catch frogs from some shallow pools, but there were so many different species and they made such different noises that my head was buzzing.
