      your skin is a really specialised organ made up special cells that produce tough, water resistant molecules. This is so that water can be kept in our body and bugs can be kept out. It is essential for all organisms that live on dry land to be able to keep water within their tissues so plants also have a ‘skin’ that is very waxy
