I started school at 5-6 years old, like you. I then went onto do gcses, a-levels, then i took a 3 year university degree followed by a one year masters degree. When i finished that i was 22, which makes it 16 years of studying! Which sounds like a lot! But its only one year more education than most university students.

I did four years on my first degree (that was in Scotland, four years is normal there!) and then three years for my PhD, so seven years total.
A PhD is not really like studying for an exam though, it’s a research project where you are judged on the work you’ve done and the way you’ve written about it. It’s more like an apprenticeship than a taught course. Plus you get paid to do a PhD – not very much, but enough to live on.

Three years for an undergraduate degree, and I have another year of my four-year PhD left. So seven years in total at university.
