I do both on a regular basis. But thats normal for any line of work. I mostly wake up and think to myself:

“im tired, i want to go back to sleep”

But its more about when you have a hard day at work, you come home and feel that just maybe you’ve made a difference. Also, i enjoy my job more than my friends enjoy theirs, so it can’t be all bad. (they don’t do research, they do ‘proper jobs’.

my first reaction to your question (therefore probably thehonest one) is that I definitely look forward to another day in the lab! I just like finding out things:)

I think my job is worthwhile, and am honestly happy to go to work most of the time (unless it’s a particularly lovely day when there is a natural urge to skive off for a picnic). The only thing I sometimes regret about choosing this job is that I have moved a lot for my career, and although that was my choice, it sucks to live so far away from most of my friends. I’m feeling this particularly strongly right now because a friend from America died last week.

Of course there’s been times when I’ve been battling for what seems like forever on the same thing, that just won’t work… it’s harder to get out of bed, for sure! But my motto is “Just do it!” (I might of stolen that from a well-known sports brand…). Good or bad day, doesn’t matter, eventually it all works out 🙂
