• Question: Was genetics always the scientific field you wanted to go into?

      Not to start with as I studied Ecology, I became interested in genetics because how plants and animals survive and behave in their environments is largely due to their genes so by understanding genetics you can address a huge number of questions.

      Well once I’d settled on the idea of science, I toyed with the idea of doing more pharmaceutical based stuff, like developing drugs, and even toyed with doing neuroscience for a short while, but essentially yeah, since I was 14 I got really interested in genetics, trying to understand it and wanting to learn all about it.

      Yes, pretty much! All the areas of biology I found most interesting – molecular biology, developmental biology and evolutionary biology – depend on genetics, so it seemed the obvious choice.

      No, at first i was interested in cybernetics which is part of robotics.
